Terry could feel it overwhelming him. The darkness. It crawled up at him from the shadows and wrap around his throat. It was overwhelming and choking him. He finally found himself breaking down and sitting at the base of a tree. He took some deep breaths, trying to calm himself
Mad.
Mad. Mad. Mad. Mad. He was going mad slowly.
Well, not like Shade's mad, or Xylia's mad. Terry could hear the whispers of Gaea and the voice of his brother. One last chance. She had told Terry today this morning. One last chance. She would give him one more. If he didn't join, his brother would be dead.
He had made a mistake for coming to the forest to calm down. It was dark. Lots of shadows. He could see a tendril of earth crawl up and spiral around his ankle, cementing him to the floor. Just his imagination. It was just his imagination...

(I just feel like RPing from third person...)
Lorelei sat on a tree branch, leaning against the trunk of the tree. It was nearly sunset. She figured that she should stay at camp for the night, and leave for the mortal world tomorrow. She braced herself and dropped from the branch, landing on her feet lightly.
When she noticed some guy a few yards away, sitting at the roots of a nearby tree, she stopped. She recognized him as Terry. Or something like that. He seemed to be deep in thought. She hesitated on whether to let him know she was there. She didn't want to disturb him. Perhaps he already knew, so there really was no point. "Hello...Terry?"

Terry was so induced in the dream-like state that he didn't notice her. That would have been bad if she meant harm. At his name, he let out a choked gasp and jerked upright. He looked at her from his sitting position, his stormy gray eyes glancing at her in a flash of fear, but then faded calm quickly. "O-Oh, hi, um, Uh...Lorelei."
He stuttered for a second and let out a small sigh. The illusions had disappeared. Truly, what had he been thinking? What Gaea had said was probably lies. It was impossible. Gaea probably didn't even have his brother. But the deadline was in ten more days. Join or Dodge dies.

Lorelei glanced at Terry with a questioning look, a small smile on her face. "Is there...anything wrong?" Strange. "Were you, um, thinking about something important? Did I just disturb you?" She added the last part quickly, her cheeks slightly reddening.
She leaned against a tree with her back against the trunk, her arms crossed across her chest, facing Terry.

"No, not at all, in fact..." Terry closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the tree. He had a headache. "I'm thankful you woke me from that trance." He let out a sigh and opened his eyes. He gazed at the green leaves above him.
"Actually, it was pretty important. You were once a soldier of Gaea, right? Can I ask you something?"

She raised an eyebrow. Not important, and important?
Lorelei flinched slightly when he mentioned Gaia, but nodded. Joining Gaia later proved to be a bad choice. "Sure. What is it?" She tried to keep her voice light and casual.

Terry's question took her by surprise. "Wait-what? You're thinking of..." she trailed off.
When she spoke again, her voice was silent. "Don't, Terry. You'll regret it. Whatever it is, it's not worth the things she makes you do. Please don't listen to her, Terry."

Terry's eyes were sad. He looked up at her. "Then what am I supposed to do? She's not giving me a choice. I'd rather die than join. But she says in ten days, if I hadn't joined, she'll kill my older brother. And I just realized he was good. I haven't seen him in five years. I want to understand everything he did. I want to see him again...but..."

"So you want me to take the risk and assume she's just lying...?" Terry gritted his teeth. The words were harsh, but he didn't mean for them to be. "Ah, no, I meant that..."

"My, my, you're ruining my image, traitor. I'm not a liar." Gaea's earthy voice sounded. The Earth Goddess formed herself from the ground, her closed eyes still allowing her to know their location. She turned to Terry. "I come here on friendly terms. Here's you brother if youi want proof."
The earth erupted before them and a cage of solid ground formed. Inside was a young man of twenty or so. He was conscious. But he had bruises and scars. His pale blue eyes were dull. Dodge looked up to see Terry. He jerked in surprise, which was hard to do considering he was cemented to the ground in a sitting position. Tendrils of earth were wrapped around him to tie his arms to his sides. "Terry?!" His voice was filled with disbelief.

Terry was on his feet immediately at her voice. His staff appeared whirling in his hands. He held it out in a defensive position, even though he was pretty sure it wouldn't do much against Gaea.
He forgot what he was doing when Dodge looked up at him and said his name. It really was him... Terry took a step forward to get closer, but the ground at his feet burst upwards and coiled itself around one of his legs. He couldn't free himself. He looked back at Gaea with a glare.

"Now now, we don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, do we? I just came here to show you that he's real. And I do have him. Tell him, Dodge." Gaea chuckled.
Dodge looked away as Gaea stepped forward. He refused to look up or answer. Just like Terry had.
Gaea let out a playful sigh. "But really, you two are alike. So stubborn..." A sharp rock shot out of the ground behind Dodge and opened a long cut up his back.
Dodge let out a small gasp of surprise and pain. Gaea looked at Terry with a smile. "See? He feels pain. He's very much real. It's up to you to believe me."

"Dodge!" Terry gritted his teeth. He couldn't do anything but watch. He glared at Gaea, hatred flaring up inside of him. Gray aura erupted around him. A silvery light that outlined his figure. "Let him go, you deranged goddess."

"My, scary. Seems like someone helped you awaken your powers. Looks like you can't do anything on your own. That's fine. I can help you with whatever you want. Join, and I'll let him go."
Dodge looks up suddenly, his cloudy gray eyes were furious. He was about to shoot a protest at Gaea when the earth curled up around him. When it opened, he was gone. "I sent him back to his little cell. Now you know he's alive. But not so well. It's your choice, really." Gaea's cruel voice sneered before her form melted back into the earth.

Terry stumbled forward as the earth sank away from his leg. "Damn it..!" She had gotten away.
He walked to where the spot Dodge had been. "You're alive..." Terry's voice was a sad whisper. For some reason, he was feeling relief. But still...

Lorelei gasped as the Earth Goddess appeared. A cage appeared next to her, with a guy in it. That must have been Terry's brother. She glanced at Gaia again, her eyes narrowing. But she didn't say anything. It was all for Terry.
When she disappeared, Lorelei walked up to Terry. "So you're really going to join?"

Terry looked at Lorelei with helpless eyes. "I'd rather die! But..." Terry stood up. He felt so confused now. He was alive. Terry wanted to keep him alive... "I have ten more days...What am I going to do?"
