Ace walked aimlessly past the dummies of the arena. There didn't seem to be anyone here. He was glad. The word spread quickly throughout camp. There was a son of Gaea here. Everyone was wary of him now. His green eyes were dull as he slumped.
Ace didn't notice the Ares kid. He bumped into him by accident. Ace noticed two of his half brothers behind him. "Ah, I'm sorry..." He began to apologize.
"Watch it, punk!" The kid grabbed him by the front of his shirt. "Aren't you that son of Gaea? What makes you think you can stroll around so casually and be trusted, huh?"
"I don't..." Ace looks up with a calm expression at the Ares kid. It was true. He couldn't say anything to defend himself. He was a freak. He didn't deny it.
"Really?" A punch nailed Ace in the stomach and he was released. Ace let out a gasp of surprise and fell to his knees, doubling over at the sudden pain. "I think you need a lesson." The two other Ares kids dragged him to his feet by the arms. Ace wanted to jerk free and draw his sword. But wouldn't that prove them right? That he was someone who would hurt the campers?
The next punch went across his face. He tasted blood in his mouth. Another one to his stomach. He was dropped to roll on the sandy floor of the arena. He forced himself to get up on a hand. He spat out the blood in the sand. A kick in his side sent him rolling over before he could get up. He held his side as they continued to kick him. but he refused to make a sound no matter how hard they kicked him.
The Ares kid was furious. He put a foot on his back to push him back onto the floor. "Gaea's son? Don't be so arrogant. You're nothing but dirt to be walked on like your mother." Then they were gone, leaving Ace on the floor of the arena.
Ace didn't feel one thing. It had hurt at first. But now the pain had faded to nothingness. It was just numb. His blank green eyes stared at the sand under him aimlessly. Maybe he should just stay down. There was no more of a point in getting up...
