Shade sat in the middle of the strawberry fields. He stared at the bright red berries and their leaves swaying around him.
"Come on, Shade! Try one, they're sweet."
Terry laughed as he tossed one at him. He chewed on a separate one. His best friend was grinning, waiting for him.
Shade caught the fruit with a bit of surprise lighting his hazel eyes. He looked up at Terry. He put it into his mouth. It was sweet. He couldn't remember. He should have eaten strawberries before in the past. Without his memories, it didn't matter. He was making new ones with Terry.
"It's sweet."
Shade said to Terry. A small smile began to form on his lips.
"Well, I'll take it that you like sweet stuff then."
Terry grinned. He ruffled Shade's hair, knowing that he didn't really like it.
Shade looked over at a fruit that was next to his fingertips. He plucked it slowly and absentmindedly. Terry.
Shade had seen it himself. Terry had fallen from the edge of the pit after Colton. The bottomless pit that had closed up after the battle. There was no way they could have survived. Shade couldn't bring himself to believe it. Terry couldn't be dead.
Shade swallowed the strawberry, staring up at the clouds in a lost shock. The strawberry was really sour...
