Katie walked briskly through the forest. The monster population seemed to be increasing steadily...it was getting seriously out of control. Katie smiled, remember how Crystal-Krissie, whatever, used to joke about 'keeping the monster population at bay'. Crystal was nice to hang around...well, until she went beserk and all, of course. Katie sighed, her breath clouding the slightly chilly October air. Nearly November already, Katie noted absently. She shivered. The jacket looked like a good choice, but it didn't warm up the daughter of Aphrodite much.
Katie tightened her grip on her knife. Call her paranoid, but a few campers had actually gotten killed in the forest recently, so she had a good reason to have paranoia. And she'd been jumped by monsters more than once. That can seriously scare the crap out of anyone, and people started avoiding the forest. Didn't do anything for the amount of monsters, except let it grow. Katie wondered if any of the demigods in Gaea's army were purposefully letting monsters loose in the forest, then pushed that thought away.
They like to kill us, she thought bitterly. Not let monsters kill us. And they still had a heck of a time figuring out who was a spy for Gaea and who wasn't. Katie had her own suspicions...especially since one of her prime suspects 'mysteriously' vanished on the day of the last battle between the camps and Gaea.
Katie sighed. She never wanted to admit this to herself...but they were losing. They were going to lose. She'd been glad-no, ecstatic, when Summer came back...but even with their newly gained soldier, they were depressingly low on demigods. More and more were being slaughtered, either 'mysteriously' vanishing, or being mauled by monsters in the forest, whatever. They even started regular border patrols since the camp's borders didn't seem to be working very well...monsters had a hard time passing through, but it wasn't impossible. They could do it. And they had done it.
Katie tensed at the sound of bushes rustling. Then turned slowly. "Come out," she said, seriously hoping it was another demigod who needed some alone time and not a traitor, spy, or monster.

Terra had actually kind of missed camp. It had been her first home. The first place she could stay for more than one day. She had made some friends here. Over at Gaea's, well, everyone was cold. They were so untrusting and all... Terra felt like she couldn't socialize with anyone there. So she was just hanging out in the forest, trying to remember what it had been like here at camp. She had seen more than enough at the other side. She knew what they were doing was horribly wrong. She had seen it already at the last battle. The earthquake he had caused. She had seen the starting of prisoner cages in Camp Gaea.
The prisoners...She remembered Terry and Colton and shuddered. They had just been left hanging there without food or water. They would probably die soon. That's what Gaea was doing. She was taking prisoners from Camp Half Blood and displaying them to the soldiers of Gaea. As if to say, "This is what will happen to you for defying me." And it worked. Some of the prisoners had already died from the lack of water and food. Colton looked like he would be the next one to go. He was already injured from the battle.
Terra was slowly beginning to regret this. But she remembered what Gaea had told her. "They already hate you, Terra Holly. You're not they're friends, you've been horrible. You hurt them. You are evil in their eyes."
Terra couldn't go back. She would never be trusted. It wasn't like she had any good friends in camp. Acquaintances, sure, but not really good friends that would trust her after betrayal. Gaea had been right. They hated her. She was evil. There was no turning back after all she had done. She had killed so many... Just then, as she shifted in her position, a person managed to pass by at the worst time. She had been heard.
Come out? Would it be wise to do such a thing? Terra squeezed her eyes shut. She didn't want to... Reluctantly, Terra stood up from behind the bush, he lavender eyes recognizing Katie somewhat. The girl Krissie had almost killed in the battle...

A girl stood up from behind a clump of bushes. Katie froze, and had her knife out in a flash, so fast the silver blade nearly caught fire. Weird metal. Not celestial bronze, not silver...Katie honestly didn't know what it was, but it was just as deadly to monsters as celestial bronze, or imperial gold. Katie had her knife pointed at Terra, and her other hand lighting up quickly in bloody red flames, tinged with pink and yellow.
"What are you doing here?" Her voice was deadly calm, almost scarier than when she was angry. She half-raised her other hand, which was glowing in strangely coloured, deadly looking flames. Katie made it quite clear that if Terra made any move to attack, she would burn the girl to ashes. Katie only remembered her name because she saw her around camp a few times, before...well, before the Fates decided that they hated the demigods.
Her hand was strangely steady on her knife, and the flames didn't quaver, either. Katie wasn't sure if she'd be as good as a fighter as she usually could be, seeing as she was still sort of, semi healing from when Krissie nearly slaughtered her in the last battle. And honestly didn't want to fight. If Terra attacked, she'd have to rely mainly on her powers...and that was never a good thing, ever.

Terra stared calmly at her weapon and flames. Her lavender eyes didn't snow the least bit of surprise at her defensiveness. She was a soldier of Gaea after all. "Sorry, I must have alarmed you." Her voice had a hint of sadness that she was trying to hide from her.
Terra was racking her brain for a reason. A reason for being here. A normal soldier of Gaea would be here to spy, right? But that would only probably make Katie attack. She didn't want that to happen. For some reason, she was just tired of killing people. Nonetheless, her unphased expression did not show her doubt. Terra didn't like being threatened. She was still the same little stubborn kid she was since the beginning of her life. Even if Gaea had broken her somewhat, she still had her old self in there. Now she had lost all her defiance. She obeyed every word Gaea said. Well, she feared the Earth Goddess.
They hate you. Look at what you've done to them. What makes you think they will take you back? The moment you return, you will be the first that they stab in the back. And seeing Katie's blade, it seemed pretty true. What she had said, that is.
Terra shuffled her feet, looking at them and concentrating hard. What was she doing here? "I'm..." She knew why she was here, but it would only sound weird to Katie. "I'm here to just remember."

"I'm here to just remember." Katie frowned, just slightly. Remember...what? What her life had been like before she somehow decided she was better off with Gaea killing dozens and dozens of demigods for the sole reason of revenge, and/or just for the heck of it? Remembering what it was like before-and Katie pretty much addressed all of Gaea's soldiers this way-she lost her mind? [relatively speaking] Katie just tightened her grip on her knife. The flames decreased in power, just slightly. It was barely noticable. But Katie was hesitating.
"Remember?" Katie asked, the only thing she was capable of doing right now. Asking questions. Spies had been popping up all around camp...but none of them, as a response to "What are you doing here?" had told the questioner that they were there...to remember, whatever that meant. "Remember what?" Katie couldn't help it. A light, just noticable sarcastic tone laced her voice. Too late to take it back now. Katie didn't mean to goad the traitor in fighting, it just...slipped. And she kept talking.
"Remember that you made a bad choice?" Katie raised her eyebrows scathingly, pursing her lips. The fire was back, full force, and deadlier than ever. A few yellow and pink sparks shot out from the flames in her fist, fizzing out in the air, or starting a mini fire on the ground that just as quickly went out. The tree nymphs wouldn't exactly be happy if Katie, even accidentally, started a fire. "Remember that Gaea was wrong about whatever she told you?" Katie's voice grew calmer again, a little softer, lower. "Or just that you wish you were never born?"
Katie didn't know where these assumptions came from. She was challenging Terra, like she should have. Either that or just outright attack her, which Katie honestly did not want to do in her condition.

Terra shot a a glare of lavender venom at Katie. Vines erupted out of the ground in a protective net around Terra. Did she want to fight that badly? Couldn't she leave her in peace? But then again...she was the one who didn't answer her question outright. Terra let out a frustrated sigh and sank to the ground. She looked at Katie warily, wishing that she would just stop threatening her already. Everything she said made Terra's heart squeeze itself painfully.
"Made a bad choice." Terra repeated. She seemed to muse over the thought behind the fined netting. "No, I don't think I made the wrong choice." Because he was there. Terra pushed the thought away. "Gaea didn't tell me anything that mattered or made me join." Everything that crazy goddess did or said was just plain evil. Especially Terry and Colton...Terra flinched slightly as she remembered the two.
"And if I was born...I don't regret that." Terra looked up at Katie with those calm eyes filled with an apology. "I just came to remember. Simply to remember what camp was like. I kind of miss it. But I can't stay."

The burning flames in Katie's hand dissapated. Katie slowly lowered her knife. For a moment, confusion flashed across her face, but it vanished so quickly it was barely noticable. She looked Terra up and down evenly, protraying no emotion whatsoever. "Why did you join in the first place, then?" she sounded like she wouldn't care one way or the other. Her face remained blank, and her voice sounded flat.
Katie wasn't about to start a fight, no matter that this was one of Gaea's soldiers. She'd run into Krissie once...who'd all but just laughed in her face, called her an idiot, then vanished. Definitely a strange encounter...she wondered if her former friend was right in the head. Probably not. Either way...she didn't want to fight, unless it was necessary. It didn't seem necessary in this case.

At the question, Terra blushed bright red. Even if Katie sounded like she didn't care, it still got her. The reason why she joined showed plainly on her face. There was someone there important to her, that was why. "Well, I- I just- because..." Terra stopped. She was being stupid! Stop stammering!

Katie slid her knife casually up her sleeve and crossed her arms. The slight bulge in her already baggy clothing went unnoticed. It was better than strapping it to her belt, since she'd have to fumble while pulling it out. If it was in her sleeve, it could slip out easily. {OOC: Which is how I carry my pencils at school, LOL}
"Because what?" Katie asked coolly. "You're at camp. And I happen to know that someone else in the forest, not so far away but still within shouting range. If you tried anything, they'd be there in an instant." As a matter of fact, that was a bluff. Not many people dared to venture into the forest these days. However, she figured that someone else had to at least be in the forest, seeing as someone else would want to get away from the world sooner or later [most people did eventually] and they usually chose either the forest or the lake.
Katie was a little more relaxed now, but still slightly tense. She wanted to be ready for anything.

Terra looked at Katie expectantly. "What? So you want to chase me out? That's fine with me. Why do I have to tell you why I joined? It's none of your business." Terra folded her arms as well. Her stubborn green eyes glaring. She had regained her com posture.

Katie shrugged casually, a small smirk playing on her face. "Then it's none of your business to be at camp," Katie countered. "I've had it with Krissie randomly dropping in, laughing in someone's face, then flashing out, or finding out that one of my so-called 'friends' were just spies." Then she shrugged again. "I could chase you out," Katie said, "but I don't feel the need to." Katie reconsidered her words, then shrugging away the possibility that Terra would've taken what she said to mean that she thought Terra wasn't capable of fighting.
"If you're done hanging around aimlessly in the forest...you can leave. Or we can stand here until you leave." Katie crossed her arms again, raising an eyebrow questioningly. The daughter of Aphrodite could feel the silver tip of the knife in her palm, slipping out from her sleeve. She ignored it, waiting for Terra's response.

"Then I'll leave." Terra replied quietly. She looked past Katie, a look of longing sadness flashing for the briefest moment in her light green eyes before she turned around. A wave of vines encircled her, encasing her from view. Then they melted back into the ground and she was gone.

Katie stood there for a moment. Then the knife slid out of her shirt, into her hand again. Katie turned, contemplating the conversation. Terra...okay, you didn't need to be the child of the love goddess to figure out she joined because of a certain someone. Who that someone was, Katie had no idea, but felt like it was intruding on someone's privacy to find out, whereas any of her siblings would've gone crazy trying to figure it out, even though Terra betrayed the camps.
Katie listed other reasons in her head for someone to join Gaea. Power, a high position, to feel that you were actually needed, in some people's cases...all for selfish needs. They don't care that by joining Gaea, they would tear apart the fabric of life, lose family to pointless wars...and those who regretted it? It was too late, unless you were like Summer. Other than that...you join Gaea, you're stuck, whether you like it or not.
Katie didn't know what Gaea's campgrounds were like, but all she had to do, really, was ask Summer. And it was everything she'd imagined it would be-people scurrying around, doing their duties, guarding the camp, usually terrified, being ordered around. Apparently everything was strict, you had to listen to higher officers, and they had to listen to Gaea. It reminded Katie of the world's meanest dictatorship, and for a good reason.
She started walking, slowly, not sure where she was going. Those who regretted their decisions...judging by Terra, Katie would assume that was several people, not just one or two...Katie swallowed, all of sudden feeling sympathetic. Then her gaze on the forest ahead hardened, and she shook her head. She'd feel sorry for them after the...final...battle. And so far...the camps were on the losing side.
Sighing, Katie vanished into the darkness of the seemingly endless forest.
