Located behind the pavilion, the land curved down, stretching so far you couldn't see where it ended, the landing field was land dotted with the occasional flowers and patches of grass. It was a great place eat outside, to train, or just to enjoy the sunshine.
A clearly home-made attempt at what held little resemblance to a wrestling ring stood a few hundred yards from the pavilion, where the grass thinned out. Old, worn out, but still sturdy ropes wrapped around poles of wood sticking out of the ground bordered an area shaped roughly like a 30 feet by 30 feet square, just to take precautions to assure the safety of watching demigods, who stood behind the outside of the ropes, clambering excitedly. The large playing area also enabled multiple pairs to battle at once.
Campers passed a hat around, taking bets, while the referee, a boy seeming about 14, looked for volunteers. Medics paced around the ring from a distance, muttering to themselves. A small wooden table was propped up a few feet away, holding water bottles, snacks, etc., etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rules, though you should know them: --------------------------
1. Please be reasonable. No one can dodge every strike, nor not lose.
2. No powerplaying, godmodding, the usual. Google them if you don't know the meaning.
3. Haha, you didn't think that would be all, did you? LOL. Word minimum: 30. That's not so bad, is it?
4. No interruptions, please. And don't post just for the heck of it.
Jeremy~ It's here. You post here. The '~~~~' meant OOC. Did you read the main thread? It's a friendly competition.
Shade watched from the stands, wondering if he should be the one to volunteer for the Romans. He decidedly jarred himself, working up the courage. He walked out of the ring of spectators with a small smile. "I volunteer!" He called out, summoning his one black longsword.
Greyson yawned, watching the competition. He was going to be watching out for skills and what needed to be changed. And if they went too far, he would stop the fight, naturally. Quicksilver swirled above his head, then flew down the ring. It formed the name Shade, then VS ? above the ring in an effort to get someone from the Greek side to volunteer.
Summer glanced around her, and when no one else made any move, proudly strode forward, shouldering her way through the crowd, arm raised up straight and high in the air. "I volunteer!"
(Haha, sounds kinda like the Reapings.)
She beamed at Shade, eyes glittering. "Ready?" She had fought him once before at the Wolf House, and now knew to watch out for feints, when he suddenly changed his attack.
Jeremy gripped his sword tighter. He wasn't paying attention when people volunteered. Then when he looked up Shade and Summer were already walking to battle. He would wait to see if there are anymore Roman volunteers later on. And then he would volunteer. But for now he just sat back, ready to study the fighter's moves.
Seeing as Shade had volunteered, she gladly stood up too, not wanting to be left out of the fun. Caroline called, "I volunteer!" and stepped into the ring. "Anyone?" Her eyes surveyed the crowd, warm green with a hard determined glint.
Shade replied with a smile towards Summer as she came forward. He had fought her before, but this time, it was only one sword he was going to use. He readied himself in front of the daughter of Zeus, feeling what little confidence he had flare up. His recovery had been decent enough for him to participate, the Apollo kids had said.
"Ladies first." He commented.
Summer grinned, glad he got into the spirit of the competition fast, drawing her knife. "Gladly." She hoped she wouldn't be too rusty. During the previous battle, she'd felt as if she'd lacked in her usual skill. Had Gaea increased her power when she was with her and now it was wearing off? Summer frowned. Is that possible? She shrugged away the thought. She'd just have to train more, then.
She stared at him for a moment, then suddenly darted forwards, about to bring her blade down. No, that's too predictable. Surprising herself, at the last second, Summer shifted, her knife swinging out at his other side. Her move was unexpected even to herself, and she accidentally crossed her feet, something she had been taught never to do, for it threw you off balance.
Shade replied with his own thin smile, and readied himself, placing his right sword firmly in front of him with two hands gripping to the hilt. As Summer moved in, he shifted backward and tensed. Her slash was easy to block, but it suddenly changed direction. The son of Pluto blinked in surprise and bloacked just in time, twisting to the side. Seeing that Summer had moved too fast for her own good, he pushed back on her blade to unbalance her before bringing his sword back around at her shoulder.
Gah... As Summer felt her feet leave the ground and fell back, she swung out wildly. A vulnerable moment like this would be the ideal time to attack, and she didn't mind if she looked stupid. It paid off to be superstitious sometimes, for she felt something hard collide with her knife. Nice try. Her back hit the ground painfully, knocking the breath out of her, but she'd made it a habit to roll to the side as soon as she hit the ground.
Shade found that she had blocked his last attack out of instinct, which was good. It proved that she subconsciously went to extra precautions. The son of Hades smiled as he continued his onslaught of slashes. He wasn't going to give Summer a break. His sword met the ground as she rolled away, and he followed after her, lashing out as she regained her feet.
“Be nice to a lady,” Summer managed to laugh as she came up on one knee, and blocked his blow again. Not quite fully balanced yet, his strike almost knocked her back on her butt. She tried to rise to her feet again to avoid any later attacks so quickly that she nearly toppled over again. Ugh, Summer felt so out of it today. Fighting didn’t seem to flow to her naturally anymore.
Shade smiled in reply, "It's hard to believe you're dainty enough to be a proper lady." He teased, taking another attack at her shoulder as she righted herself. "You're unstable today." He pointed out blatantly just to distract her.
"Offensive!" She joked, putting on her best hurt face. She didn't give a crap one way or the other if she wasn't ladylike, since she knew that already. Summer deflected his sword, hard, as if in response to his later comment. "Yeah, I know." Hmph, even Shade had noticed, though it was kind of obvious.
"Oh please, don't tell me you want to be a lady?" Shade returned her expression with a horrified look. "I can not imagine you with makeup and a dress every day."
As his sword rebounded of her blade with a the clear ringing sound of metal, he spun it pleasantly in his hand, taking a moment to decide how to resume his attack. He dropped low, aiming a kick at her legs, and at the same time, aiming a slash upwards at her stomach.
"Ah, shut up," she huffed, instinctively jerking back sideways, skipping over his kick though his sword skidded against her skin, leaving a thin red line. The blade'd sliced right through her shirt. Summer glided back a few steps, grinning at him despite the sting at her ribs. "Good."
After a moment of calculation, darting forward, the daughter of Zeus lashed out at his side.
