And sometimes we can.
Look up at the sky. What do you see? Clouds? Birds? Blimps? A large gray stormcloud? Well, I must say thatall most of those things are very pleasent things to look at. Unless, of coarse, the bird poops on your head, or the gray stormcloud drops its boatloads of water on you when you have no umbrella and your dressed in a tank top and shorts with flip-flops. Then when you look at them you may think about roasting that bird, or murduring Zeus for making it rain so hard(which I do hope you never do).
Well, here at Camp Half-Blood, if you looked up at the sky and was a regular camper it would be no surprise for you to see some pretty pegasi. Pegasi are winged-horses, named after the famous and immortal winged-horse known as Pegasus. But you probably couldn't care less about the history. And Pegasus, if you are reading this, I do hope that you are not offended and I am deeply sorry if it did.
One of those pegasi-riding demi-gods today at this very moment is Ellie Snicket. Yes, THE Ellie Snicket you have never heard of! But of coarse you've never heard of her! She was a home-schooled farmgirl in Oklahoma, for Demeters sake! Plus, she has recently moved into Camp Half-Blood, and has decided that she was going to stay year round with some of her friends (and possibly enemies). But, anyway, here is the story of the first time she has ever ridden Sphinx, her pegasi.
"Okay Sphinx," Ellie said, "I am going to get onto your back, and when I gently kick you you fly without attempting to get me off your back, okay?" Ellie said this nicly and slowly. If Sphinx thaught of her as a threat, Elle could easily fall and break her neck.
"Neigh," said Sphinx in an annoyed tone. Translation: For the last time Ellie, I'm not going to drop you. I've been flying since I was a foal, whether you beleive it or not. So please get on my back and I'll take you for a nice ride over the lake without dropping you.
"Sigh. Alright, Sphinx. I have no idea what you just winnied, but I think I can trust you," Ellie told her pegasi.
She got on Sphinxes back and gently kicked her like she were gently kicking a soccor ball. Sphinx flew up and went in the direction of the lake. Ellie, who even though had grown up on a farm had no clue how to stear a pegasi, let alone a horse, allowed Sphinx to ride in the direction she felt like. In truth, I, the writer, beleive that she was only training her stomach not to throw up whenever she reached high areas.
Luckily, Ellie did not throw up, and Sphinx landed safely near the stables.
"Huh," said Ellied, "That was a fun ride, for something that could've easily frighten a sixteen year old. You can go graze, Sphinx, but be back in the stables by sunset unless you want to be eaten by harpies."
"Neigh," said Sphinx . Translation: I will, thank you. And have no fear for I will be back in the stables by sunset.
