ROLEPLAYING!
Definition of roleplaying credit Wikipedia-Characters used in examples credit Rick Riordan-SPAM acronym idea credit Google I just happened to be browsing in boredom-Rest of text credit my brain for randomly ranting on and on about rping
Thank you for visiting us tonight. As you may know, tonight's show is all about ROLEPLAYING FOR IDIOTS! *I grin wickedly as I wait for applause but get chirping crickets*
Anyway, WHAT IS ROLEPLAYING? That's a great question. Thank our user -ENTERNAMEHERE- for asking that. Role-playing refers to the changing of one's behaviour to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role. While the Oxford English Dictionary defines role-playing as "the changing of one's behaviour to fulfill a social role" the term is used more loosely in four senses:
-To refer to the playing of roles generally such as in a theater, or educational setting;
-To refer to taking a role of an existing character or person and acting it out with a partner taking someone elses role, often involving different genres of practice;
-To refer to a wide range of games including computer role-playing games, play-by-mail games and more;
-To refer specifically to role-playing games, which is what this site is made for.
Anyway, let's learn about the rules of roleplaying. Any volunteers to tell us how to? *I smile hugely and wait for the hands. I get nothing*
Oh well! I'll tell you about it myself, then. I'll split it into different topics on what you should and should not do!
TALKING
Your character isn't mute! (Unless, of course, he or she is, but we'll talk about that later)
Anyway, put what you're talking between " and ".
Ex: "Seaweed Brain." Annabeth whispered.
If your character, uh, by random chance, IS mute, well, you still have to THINK, don'cha? Read on.
THINKING
To think, you put your thoughts between these:
So a thought would look something like: Yeah right. Annabeth thought scornfully.
*I grin* Am I awesome, or am I MAJORLY awesome?
Actions
Well. Everyone moves, unless, of course, your character can't. Oh well. You just say what your character is doing!
ex: Annabeth threw her knife like a javelin and it knocked the enemy's sword away. Only then did she realized who it was. Her limbs went numb as the man slowly turned.
And because I really haven't thought that example through, I will end it there. If your character, ah, can't move, then just use the 'thinking' and 'talking categories above to roleplay.
OOC
Sometimes your character isn't talking, but YOU are. That means you are talking OOC (Out Of Character). Don't spam up threads only talking OOC, but you can add it at the bottom of your post if you're bored or just want to talk. Put OOC between parenthesis or brackets. () or [] or {} or, well, ya get the idea, right? If ya don't, I'mma not sayin' this again.
Example of OKAY OOC: Percy dodged the strike and slashed with his sword. "You can't beat me." He taunted.
(Wait a sec. I'm getting a cookie. brb.)
The general, rules, book discussion, clubs, history, and advertisement boards are OOC boards. That means you don't have to put OOC posts between ()/[]/{}/etc.

RP DON'TS
Here we'll learn about godmodding, spamming, and powerplaying.
GODMODDING
Hey! You isolent [yes I know what it means] little people out there! Listen up, for I'm about to make your puny little lives a bit less miserable.
Godmodding. What is godmodding?
Definition: Acting like you are a god.
Percy: Percy slashed at his opponent.
Annabeth: Annabeth blocked the blow and used her awesome powers to blow Percy's sword into pieces.
(Really stupid example, I know.)
That's sorta godmodding. Close. Remeber: YOU ARE NOT A GOD. (Um, unless you are. If you are, that's different entirely. This is for half-bloods, saytrs, nymphs, Hunters of Artemis, etc, etc. Not gods/titans/immortals.)
NOT GODMODDING:
Percy: Percy slashed at Annabeth, training as hard as he could and pushing with as much force as he could.
Annabeth: Annabeth parried with her knife, then tried a thrust of her own.
SPAMMING!
Ugh. I finally came up with an acronym for Spam!
Silly
Pointless
Annoying
Messages
Because that's exactly what Spam is!
Example of spam:
Percy: "Run! Now! Get away! I'll hold them!" Percy yelled over the noise to Annabeth and Grover.
Grover: "But..." Grover trailed off as the things got closer. He put on his brave face. "F-f-fine. Annabeth, hurry."
Annabeth: WHO LIKE MUFFINS???
I love picking on Annabeth.
Anyway, the last post was an example of spam. Was that even related to the topic? No. Did it make sense? No. Was that really necessary? No. Did it lighten the mood? Yes, but that's not the point. Then why can't we spam? STOP IT! *Silence*
Ah, finally. WEll, spam is annoying, stupid, silly, pointless, and nobody likes it. Learn to rp the RIGHT way, DO NOT SPAM!
NOT SPAMMING:
Percy: "Run! Now! Get away! I'll hold them!" Percy yelled over the noise to Annabeth and Grover.
Grover: "But..." Grover trailed off as the things got closer. He put on his brave face. "F-f-fine. Annabeth, hurry."
Annabeth: Annabeth swallowed hard, and took one long, last glance at Percy before allowing herself to be pulled away by Grover.
Spam is also...
Any post under three words. Come on, I know you can do better!
Any ONLY OOC posts. Jeez, this site is RPING, not CHATTING.
Double posting. Edit your posts instead!
POWERPLAYING
Powerplaying is exactly what it sounds like. Using powers you don't have. An example of powerplaying:
(I'll pick on Percy this time.) Annabeth: Annabeth slashed with her knife, hoping her opponent didn't have time to react.
Percy: Percy caught the strike and twisted, putting all his weight into a downwards thrust so it was impossible for Annabeth to not let go of her knife. Then he cut Annabeth across the cheek and watched her back away.
Percy! No! What were you thinking?! Don't control Annabeth's character! That is powerplaying. I'll pick on Annabeth again for another example of powerplaying.
Percy: Percy jumped and the sound and whirled around, slashing in air with a complicated twist, making it hard for whoever it was to escape.
Annabeth: Annabeth grabbed Percy's sword out of mid-air then threw it back at him, and before realizing who it was, she charged him with her knives, slashing at his face with one, hacking and his mid-section with another, and cleaving downwards with the last so it was impossible for Percy to do anything but fall.
RULES OF RPING
Everything has rules, right? Well, rping has rules too
1. No spamming, godmodding, or powerplaying.
2. No not listening me lecture you
3.
AND IN CONCLUSION...
Having said this, I good rp post would be:
'Annabeth sat on her bunk in the Athena cabin, her nose in her architecture book. Architecture was fasinating, really. All those monuments are intricate designs seemed almost utterly impossible. She was almost finished when hse felt something brush against her jeans. Annabeth put a bookmark in her book and turned around. She almost screamed. "Sp-sp-spider! Ahh!" She shrieked, and stood up. staring a the disgusting eight-legged creature crawling on her bed. Breathing heavily, Annabeth slowly backwards to the door, her eyes wide and riveted on her bed. It had been neat, but the image was ruined by the hairy, brown, fist-sized spider crawling on her bed sheet.'
And remeber, roleplaying doesn't have to be that complicated. It can be a simple sentence or action, like, 'Annabeth bolted before a telekhine could jump on her', or ' "So." Annabeth said scathingly. "What now Seaweed Brain?" '
I hope you have enjoyed tonight's show. I very much enjoyed lecturing you on roleplaying. And now you have read this, if I see you spamming, powerplaying, or godmodding, I will give you a warning.
Normally this is Summer's jod to lecture you, but her lectures are boring. Ha ha.
If you are rping right and you've always been following the rules, you'll get virtual money! Hehe! I have an idea for the virtual money but I need Summer's permission first and I really don't know when the next time she gets onto the computer is.
Anyway, thank you, thank you, and good night! *I bow, waiting for applause but gets none again*
*The curtains go down*
(N: Finally! I think I typed and edited at this thing for an hour!)
Summer:
Hi, Crystal. Imma gonna add something.
If you want to talk, like not your character, but if you want to say something, put it between ()s. It can be totally off topic (Try not to, though) and random, like(I'm gonna use your charries.):
Annabeth swung open her cabin door, and went in. She was exhausted, and angry. She slammed the door behind here and walked over to her bunk. She then took out a silver laptop from one of the bags near the foot of the bed. (Annabeth is in a mood right now!)
Crystal/Katie: Hey, bird-brain, I already put that in.
NOTE: To guest who apparently hates us:
I changed it.
