WIP! WIP! WIP! BEING MAJORLY RE-EDITED!
I feel like I'm losin' my mind...
Krissie Reed. Traitor. Crystal. Chrysanthe, at one point. All names of now, definitely well known daughter of Poseidon. One of the highest ranking of Gaea's, Mother Earth's, whatever the hell you want to call her...'s...army.
And how did one innocent, curious, joking little girl grow up to be one of the most feared, vicious, cruel, cold-hearted warriors? Death. Watching your friends, then your best friend, then who was supposed to be your best friend forever, followed by your brother, then sister, followed by your own mother, brutally murdered before your eyes...Death can change a person. And it changed Crystal...quite a lot.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was born in an average house. She was Chrysanthe Aella Reed. Nickname, Crystal. Average family. She was the second child, with an older brother and a younger sister. She lived happily with them, until the age of four. She was sent to preschool...and got kicked out within days for somehow setting the entire school on fire. Confused, she was moved on to another school.
Kindergarten. Boom. "I'm sorry, your daughter managed to freeze the entire water system." First grade. "Your daughter tried to kill one of the other students!" First grade, part two. "She set the sandbox on fire!" Second Grade. "She flooded the classroom!" Second Grade, part two. "She caused a power outage!" Second grade, part three. "Blinded everyone with light!"
"Fire!"
"Flood!"
"It was dark!"
"I couldn't see, it was so light!"
"Entire school froze! In ice!"
"Wind blew the school apart!"
"Hurricane!"
"Earthquake!"
"Another flood!"
"FIRE! AGAIN!"
For some reason, Crystal was continually kicked out of school. She was confused. Had she really caused that fire? She was just trying to warm herself. That flood? Crystal needed to wash her hands. Hurricane? That was a bit of exaggeration...earthquake? Alright, that HAD to be an coincidence! The wind? She didn't really WANT to be in third grade.
Along the way...
She was six. Hanging around with one of her somewhat friends, Lauren Dubyoski at a park. She was pretty fun, and they were laughing. Then suddenly Lauren stopped laughing, and her face morphed into one of shock. Crystal, confused, asked what was wrong. Then Lauren began to topple over. Crystal backed off, horrified. A knife was sticking out of her chest. Standing over the bleeding body of the six year old was a scaled, snake-haired lady holding a spear in one hand. "Remember this," she had hissed. "And this is what will happen to you if you do not listen to the rising mistress."
At the time, Crystal had no idea that Gaea was already struggling to rise. She had no idea what anything meant. All she knew was that one of her friends had been killed, and right in front of her eyes. A little piece of her died that day. Death can do that to a person. Still, shakily, she slowly, months passing, slowly started to recover the shock. But the death left a mark on her. This was probably Gaea's plan all along, break Crystal down...and turn her into an insane, revenge driven monster. And who the blame? The gods, of course. But we're not there yet.
Crystal had just turned seven. She was a little more quiet, not as talkative. Not many people noticed this change, but her mother did and was a little worried. She was hanging around with one of her better friends, Belinda Fletcher. She was cracking a joke, when a shadow passed over them. Belinda didn't notice, however, Crystal tensed, remember the incident with Lauren. They were at the same park, a year later.
The shadow transformed...into...some sort of dark, black, furred...dog? Yes. A giant dog, burning red eyes, with saliva dripping out of its mouth. Crystal opened her mouth to scream a warning. Too late. The dog lunged...but not at Crystal. At Belinda Fletcher, who was just laughing. No... Crystal thought in horror, remembering how Lauren's laughter was cut off abruptly...the same way Belinda had just stopped. She was tackled to the ground.
In an instant, instead of laughing...she was screaming. Terrified, ringing peals of screaming rang throughout Crystal's head. Crystal was too shocked to do anything but stare in horror. "Crystal! Help me!"
"I-I-I can't! Belinda-"
Another scream. The giant black mastiff was tearing the little girl apart, piece by piece, and not being very neat with it either. Blood-Belinda's blood-splattered Crystal in the face as the bloodied severed limbs were chewed, than spat out by the giant monster dog. Blood and several other disgusting, sticky fluids shot everywhere. Crystal was still standing there, shock still. The dog looked at Crystal when it was done, Belinda's crimson blood staining its paws and face. A thought popped into her head, one that couldn't have been a coincidence...it was the dog.
She will rise. You will fall.
Again, Crystal was marked for a life. Another, albeit larger portion of her seemed to die inside. She refused to go out for months. Months...in which she became much, much more quiet. Two deaths was two too many for a seven year old to see.
Five months later, she finally, cautiously, went outside...to be bear-hugged by her 'BFF' at the time. Emily Colman(*), a bright, cheery little girl who liked goofing off and being crazy. Crystal nearly started screaming, until she realized it was just Emily, and laughed, a real laugh, for the last time until she was fifteen, sixteen...but we'll get into that later.
They didn't go to the park. Crystal vowed never to return to there. Instead, they hung out by a store in a usually quiet street, talking, Crystal managing faint smiles now and then. You can guess what happened next. One minute Emily was happily chattering away, babbling on and on about how much fun they'd have no that Crystal was finally out of her house, then...
Emily was cut off mid-laugh. Crystal felt numb. She was terrified...then Emily started laughing again. Grinning, the girl said, "You should've seen the look on your face!" Irrational emotions surged through Crystal. She was blinded with pure, unnatural anger that camed from seemingly nowhere. Emily shied away. Crystal started screaming. "Do you KNOW what you made me feel like? Lauren, then Belinda! I thought you were next! I thought you were going to DIE, and you have the nerve to laugh at me?"
She couldn't stop. Emily was the one looking scared now. Suddenly her face turned red and she started gasping. Crystal didn't know that she had her hands around Emily's throat at the time. She didn't know...until she came back to her senses, the dead body of her best friend lying at her feet.
First reaction? Shock. Second? Terror. Third? To start screaming. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean it! I'm so sorry!" She was dragged away by people who assured it would be fine, that it would all be over soon. She spent the next months locked in her room, sobbing quietly to herself. Much, much more of her died inside that day, especially since she had killed her best friend herself.
Crystal was never the same. She got herself kicked out of school for various other things, and pretty much lived by herself in her room. And then came the death of her brother...
She was in her room, the door locked. She held a glittering silver blade against her wrist, her sea-green eyes cold. On top of the deaths of Lauren, Belinda, and Emily...she found she could breathe underwater, control...certain things, talk to horses and sea creatures...and she was certain she was being driven insane. So what did she do? The nearly eight year old girl was going to attempt suicide.
BOOM!
Crystal jerked her head up, dropping the knife on the ground in surprise. What the-she heard a yell. Crystal froze. No. That was her brother. She was out of the room in a flash, pretty much ripping the door off its hinges and bursting into her brother's room. There was a shadow, just leaving behind...
The torn apart remains of Crystal's brother. His room was pretty much demolished, and his body was torn apart. Bloody body parts were strewn across the place, splattered in blood. Crystal's face went deathly pale. Her friends...and now her family. She had an eerie feeling that her little sister was next. No sooner had she thought this when there was another crash, then another BOOM!
Crystal ran to her sister's room next, bracing herself. Sure enough, her little sister, little Annabelle Reed, was lying, dead, in a pool of her own blood. Next to her...was that a paper? Crystal picked it up. It was splattered red and written hastily in...something's handwriting.
Guess who's next?
That was it. Then what would happen to Crystal? Terrified and confused, Crystal sat down, dazed, in a pool of Annabelle's blood. "Lauren...then Belinda..." she murmured. She opened her eyes wide, almost recognizing a pattern. "Emily..." she winced. That was her fault. "Brian..." her older brother. "Annabelle." Her eyes fluttered open, fully. "She's next," she breathed.
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The next day, for Crystal's eighth birthday, her mother, Lilly Reed, brought her to the beach. Crystal sat waist high in the ocean the entire time, wind tousling her milky blonde hair. Her expression remained emotionless, her skin pale, and her sea-green eyes dull. Lilly was worried, but forced a cheery mood. The deaths...there was a pattern. Every death killed Crystal more and more inside, because every death was someone closer and closer to Crystal herself.
Who was next? It was simple, really...
The ground started rumbling. Crystal snapped out of her semi-trance, frowning slightly. She wore a long sleeved shirt in the water, just because there was a deep scar running down one arm...let's just say attempted suicide didn't go too well. Crystal stood up. She was perfectly dry. Barely noticing this, Crystal ran out of the water, to the villa where her mom was. She arrived to see a...Sphinx! the word popped into Crystal's head, from where, she did not know.
The monster was eating her mother. Wasn't there a tale, the one where the sphinx told a riddle, and if the person didn't get it right...the monster would eat them. And as an answer to the earlier question-Crystal's mom was next.
Crystal's jaw dropped open, but she was angry now. Very angry. This was thousands of times the anger she felt when she'd choked her best friend, Emily, to death. The sphinx was chewing on her mother, legs fist, so she could see her mom's pale sky blue eyes, fixing on her. And then her mom screamed the last words she would ever say. "Crystal! Run!" Her chest was being eaten. She was dead now, no doubt about it. Her head slumped, her eyes closed. But those pale blue eyes forever haunt her..."Crystal! Run!"
She didn't run. She closed her eyes. Anger took over her. She exploded into green fire. The flames shot in every direction, turning everything it touched to ice, which immediately crumpled into ashes that were swept away by the wind. It became dark, then blindingly bright. The sphinx shrieked in horror. Her mother's head had disappeared down its throat. Crystal opened her eyes. They were changing colours. Red. Blue. Green. Grey. Brown. Black. Yellow. White. Colourless. Repeat. She said one word-"Die." The sphinx was engulfed in green flames, burning so bright it made the sun look dark...then it exploded.
That's when Crystal ran. She turned and ran blindly. All the way to camp, before collapsing in tears. Chiron told her about Greek myths. But when Crystal heard that, she was angry. If my father was a god...why didn't he stop my friends, my family from dying? I'm all alone now...I don't have a father. He means nothing to me.
She put on a facade almost immediately. The sort of, gushing, strange, weird, crazy girl that people had no choice but to laugh at, then usually make friends with. She got a new best friend-Summer Anderson. Some of the smiles she shared with her were genuine, but she never laughed.
She got a boyfriend, Xavier Smith. And for once, the world felt right. Crystal laughed. Really, really, laughed. It wasn't a fake.
The dream from Gaea...all those hidden, dark feelings rose to the top. Crystal ditched camp, scoffing...the innocent young girl would forever be gone. The teenager who had once felt real happiness vanished...
Krissie Reed, murderer, traitor, monster...was born.
