Terry woke up in the middle of the night. His gray eyes hinted with green looked left, then right. He slowly propped himself up on one hand. He was in his small bed. The book that had been resting open on his chest fell on to the floor, waking him up fully in alarm. He brushed the pages and closed the book carefully. He set it on his desk.
Terry decided to go downstairs and get a snack. An apple or whatever. To keep the doctor away. Oh, his cold humor. He yawned as he reached the last step. He peeked into the dark kitchen and went to the fridge. His eyes caught the open front door. He opened the fridge and looked around. Fruit....there was an apple....wait. Open door?
Terry back pedaled and walked out to the front. The door was wide open. Tsk. A note from his big brother was pasted on the door. I'm going to the park. Meet me and Kevin there. Kevin was the smallest brother of the three.
Terry sighed. What a pain. He walked out into the open. The moonlight washing over his black hair. He held out his right hand, and the air shimmered. His golden staff appeared in his hand. The ends were metal spheres. It was a gift from his mother. The pattern of an olive branch was imprinted around pole. He jogged into the park.
"You're early."
Terry whirled to the side to spot his big brother standing in the clearing with his own staff. The ends weren't spheres, but blades. Other than that, they were identical.
"And jumpy." He mused and walked forward, whirling his bladed staff.
"What did you want, Dodge? You called me out."
"Nothing, Terry. Just wanted to talk a little." His brother said with a deadly smile.
"About what?" Terry narrowed his eyes and took a step back. Dodge never smiled like that. And he never called him 'Terry'. Only 'bro'.
He was behind him before he could react. Dodge swung out with his bladed edge. Terry had only turned to the side before his bladed edge had opened a cut from his shoulder up.
Terry gritted his teeth as the pain flared up in his shoulder. He looked into his brother's eyes. "What are you doing?!" He blocked the second blow and was forced back. Dodge's swing was too strong.
"You're slow for a genius." Dodge grinned, a crazy light in his eyes. "I'm trying to kill you, of course."
Terry blocked every swing desperately, his staff shuttering at each blow, shaking in his hands. A cut on his arm and cheek opened from hits. But he never landed one on his brother. He rolled to the side to swing his staff at Dodge. The next moment, a shattering blow sent it flying through the air and spinning into the grass. A kick to the side sent him tumbling to the ground in the other direction with a cough. The same foot was pinning him to the floor by the chest in another moment. Dodge's blade pressing against his throat. The beginning of a cut allowing a drop of blood to well up on his neck.
"What are you-"
"SHUT UP!" Terry was cut off by his brother. "Shut up!"
"Where is Kevin?!" He screamed back despite the blade at his throat.
His brother's smile was terrifying. He leaned down to look Terry in the eyes. His foot came off, but the blade was pressed harder. The cold metal chilling him to the bone. "I killed him like I'm gonna kill you."
"You didn't-"
"Look there." His brother said pointing to the concrete to the right. Terry took the risk of turning his head. A small figure lay there in a pool of blood. The brown hair was so familiar...his clothes....Terry's eyes widened in disbelief. He didn't believe it. He didn't have anything he could say. Kevin wasn't dead. He was faking. This was a joke...
"Hey, that look is breaking my heart, Terry. Stop staring off."
The blade was lifted and another kick rolled him over twice onto his belly, holding his side in pain. His glasses flew away somewhere. He couldnt see. The world was spinning and hazy. Dodge slashed open a cut on his back, making him yell. His vision flashed red.
"You done yet?" a voice somewhere far away floating into his consciousness. He couldn't think. Who said that? He heard Dodge reply. What was he saying..? He heard retreating footsteps. "He can die on his own." Was the last thing he heard before he blacked out.
He had woken up an hour later. His hand was shaking as he crawled his way to his dead little brother. His tears seemed endless as he stroked the hair back to reveal
those blank eyes. His hands were shaking. His scream was enough to wake up the whole neighborhood as he slammed his fist into the ground. His eyes squeezed shut. He would kill him. He would kill Dodge.
-A week later-
Terry winced as he sat up. He touched his bandages and looked out the window of the unknown place. Somewhere in the woods behind the park. He was deep inside the forest. His mother had talked to him and teleported him into the log cabin. She had also transported the rest of his stuff here too. Apparently, behind the woods was a camp for half bloods he could go to. He had to rest up and heal first. He couldn't go home. They were orphans. Dodge and his little brother was dead. There was no home to return to. He was alone.
His tears were dry now. He was speechless as he stood up. He would go tomorrow. To this camp his mother suggested. But he would return and find Dodge and kill him.
What a life goal. To kill his brother. It was laughable.
