Atsuko Izumi blocked the blow from the wooden sword with her own fake blade. Her wrist shook under the pressure, flew her practice sword flew from her hand and clattered to the floor. She took a step back as the blade was swung at her throat. She bit her lip. She hated the words. "I yield."
Nami Kana lowered her sword and smiled. "You've gotten better. Don't worry, Izumi."
Lies. All lies. If she had gotten better, she would have beaten the head of the house. She would be the strongest of the dojo. Her family would be honored. But she spoke. "Yes, sempai." Which meant older student.
She stood up after being dismissed and walked back to her house, gripping the wooden hilt tightly. Useless. She was useless. Izumi shook her head. She would never be head of the house. She wasn't strong enough. And her family was a branch family. The Atsuko family served under the Nami family. If she could just win and change that....But the Nami family were born assassins. Geniuses.
She wasn't a daughter of Nike. Not a daughter of the victory goddess. Her father would send her to a half blood camp tomorrow to train and meet new kids. Get better, since she was no good now. Maybe she could become victorious, or be a pawn continuously....she had to win.
Izumi opened the door and peeked in, putting her fake sword to the side. She slipped off her shoes at the mat and lined it neatly in the shelf. "I'm home."
"How did it go, Izumi?" Her father asked. She knew what that meant. Did you win?
Izumi shook her head and walked to the table to get her homework. "...It's fine. You can go to a Summer camp to train. You're the only half blood out of all of the dojo members, I want you to be able to use your skill to fight. There are a lot of kids to train with there."
Yeah, but were there kids like her? Her accent? She didn't thinks so. She went online to search up names. She settled on Jade. Jade for the jewel. She liked the sound of the name. And maybe she wouldn't be made fun of. Maybe they were nice there.
But she was a pawn. A daughter of a minor god. A member of a branch house. Destiny told she would never rise up. And she wanted to change that. She wanted to win for her mom.
