Shade burst into the clearing, cold sweat pouring down his face. Stupid, stupid dogs. He turned around and slashed at a hellhound. It burst into shadows. A second clamped onto his left arm. Shade cursed in pain and ended it with his other sword. Yep, Shade fought with a short sword on his left and a long double edged sword on his right.
Being a son of Pluto, you would think it was weird that he was being attacked by a pack of hellhounds. But in truth, he had no control over his powers. He could only do one thing. A black fire lit on his fingertips and ran up his blade. The beasts kept their distance, aware of the hot black flame on his blades. There were too many, nonetheless. At this rate, they would take him down.

"What is it?"
"You seemed to be thinking of something, Dodge." Shade replied to his mentor.
"It's nothing."
"You sure?" Shade spotted the picture in his hand. "Who's that?"
"...My brother." Shade could see that the picture was the source of his downward mood.
"You have a brother?" Shade plopped down on his bed next to him.
"Yeah, his name's Terry." Dodge sat up and ruffled Shade's hair playfully. "What do you think you're doing, bro? This is my bed, not yours!"
"I can't even sit here?" Shade laughed and grabbed for his hand.
"Of course not! I'm the mentor here!" Dodge blocked Shade and pushed his head down, really messing up his hair. He ran outside. "You can only submit to me!"
"Hey!" Shade ran out of the cabin into the woods after him.
.............
Shade sat next to Dodge, wiping the sweat off his face. He looked up at Dodge happily. They had finished the run through the trees. His smile gradually disappeared as he looked
at Dodge. His expression was blank; it never was. Something was bothering him. But he said nothing. Shade was just glad he was by his side. Like a big brother to him. The only one he talked to. The only one he knew. The one who took care of him since he was four. He couldn't remember anything before that.
...............
"Dodge?!" Shade ran outside. His bed was cold, empty. There was no sign of him. "Dodge?!" His hand shook, and the note in his hand fluttered to the floor. You won't understand, kid. I was a horrible brother. And now I failed as a mentor. Everything I have done is a crime. Including deceiving you. Go to a half blood camp. There's one nearby. Right past these woods. Go there. Survive. We might meet again. I'm sorry. -Dodge
-One year later. Present.-
Shade slashed at one hound, forcing it out of the way for him to run. They had found his cabin. The one he was living in alone now. He hoped he would come back. Dodge. He wanted to wait. But the monsters weren't giving him a choice. They grew in numbers each visit. He had packed his stuff in case this had happened. And one dog managed to latch onto his backpack. Camp. Where was the stupid camp on the other side of this forest?!
The weight was too much for him. The hellhound was nearly as large as him. Another caught up and bit into his leg. He yelled in pain. He cut it away, and it dispersed into shadow. The hellhound on his pack dragged him down. His wound burned. He rolled onto the ground, but for some reason they didn't jump on him. They didn't finish him off.
Shade sat up painfully. Red spots danced before his eyes. They were gone. The monsters had vanished without a trace. Shade blinked in confusion. He looked up. A song read "Welcome to camp!" Funny. He was looking for a camp....His dizzy mind was fuzzy.
Camp! His eyes shot open. Go to a half blood camp. Wait a minute. He grabbed the bandage out of his pack and wrapped up his wounds. His arm, leg. He ripped the ends off with his teeth. Shade tied it off to stop the blood. It was fine. It would hold. He stood up. We might meet again.
Shade was going to join here. He had made up his mind. Dodge's letter held a wish in his heart. We might meet again. He walked into camp. His wounds didn't hurt anymore. Oh, who was he kidding? They hurt. He just couldn't show it. This was his hope. He wouldn't show weakness here.
