(Link from 'Morning' in the Apollo Cabin. halfgods.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=apollo&action=display&thread=187) Brown eyes flicker open, look around the dim cave. Rough stone walls surround the girl on all sides, a small crack the only opening to the world. Silently, she pushes to her feet, placing a hand on her spinning head. It feels wet. When she pulls her hand away, the palm is red with her blood. Sneakers crunch loudly on the sandy floor as the girl stumbles over to the opening, placing her hand against the wall. She reaches on arm through, feeling the stone scrape flesh. A smear of blood leaves a vermillion mark on the outside of the cave. She slams her shoulder against the hole, but is unable to fit through. Her hand withdraws, her back sliding down the wall until she hits the ground, slumping against the stone barrier. Fat tears roll down her cheeks, making perfect circles in the dirt. Blood drips steadily from her side as well as her head. "How…" she breathes. |

"Dawn!!" A familiar voice rang through the air. "Dawn!" It yelled again. The voice was Kuro. He had followed her all the way here and lost track of her for just a second. His voice was full of concern and worry. "Where the hell is she..." He said under his breath as he looked around.

"Kuro!" she calls standing suddenly. "I'm here!" She almost cries for joy, but knows that just being found will not get her out of this hole. Something had taken her here, but why? How?

Kuro quickly followed her voice and saw the hole. "Dawn! What happened? Are you ok?" He said in a worried voice. He couldn't really see her but he was able to smell blood around.

"I'm fine. I don't know--" Her scream cuts her words off abruptly. In the dark of the cave it's hard to tell what is there, but it's big. And hungry.

"I'll get you out!" He yelled to her. He sent blue fire into the cave so Dawn could look around. Kuro shifted into a snake and went through the whole and slithered out to the other side next to Dawn. He shifted quickly as he went to the floor. He shook his head a little.

She's pressed up against the wall, eyes wide and scared. Fresh blood gushes from a gash on her shoulder. On hand presses feebly against it, trying in vain to staunch the flow of blood.
The fire illuminates… nothing. There's nothing there. In sight, at least. But Dawn can feel it, a looming presence in the cave. A crash resonates through the chamber.
"It's the Thing." she whispers. "It's back."

"Dawn!" I shouted her name. Then I saw her in the cave. My eyes widened. "Oh my gods! I finally know the creature that killed your mother! It's-it's-!" I couldn't say the name. (Seriously what is it?)
I ran forward. "Dawn! Get out of there!"

Kuro felt something but didn't know what it was. 'Dawn. Use Aesis...' He thought to her quickly as his two daggers appeared in his hands.

She fumbles at her belt, forcing her fingers, numb with shock and terror, to work the simple clasp. The Thing steps out of the shadows, heavy thumping steps resonating around the small room. A slash of a mouth leers out of the boulder-like head. (Laestrygonian giant. Link- www.theoi.com/Gigante/GigantesLaistrygones.html) It is the first time Dawn had ever seen the best, and her eyes fill with rage as she looks upon it, her mother's mangled form flashing in front of her eyes. She rips her crossbow from her back, suddenly forgetting the pain of her wounds. She fires a bolt, the small piece of wood flying through the air, bouncing harmlessly off the thick skull of the giant. |

Kuro glared at the giant and attacked it quickly. The giant blocked and pushed him back. Kuro glanced around quickly and sighed. "Dawn. Stand back. Summer get out of the way!" He yelled to Summer but was calm. Blue fire went around him slowly. "I love shifting sometimes...." He smirking slightly.

Scared again, she steps back, her anger fading slightly. If her crossbow won't do anything to hurt the Laestrygonian, there is nothing Dawn can do. She pulls Aesis from her belt, pressing the blade against her shoulder.

I was simply walking on the beach, I did that more often, when I heard yelling and a loud roar.
"Can't believe I get involved in this type of stuff..." I mumbled as I jogged over. A Laestrygonian giant.. I thought as I pulled out my drakon tooth and throwing it at the monster's chest. It got it, but did not turn to dust, only looked at me, then continued fighting. Monsters aren't even scared of me anymore.. The thought made the angry, and I commanded the shadows to make poisonous arrows and swords. They shot at the creature.

The giant roars, batting away weapons with its large, meaty hands. Small cuts appear on its body, but nothing enough to kill, or even slow, the beast. It makes a lunge at Summer.

The fire disappeared and left a dragon in front of Dawn. Almost the same size as the giant just a little smaller. It roared at the giant and tackled it quickly before it hit Summer. It pushed it out of the way and it bit it deeply on its shoulder. Its tail lashed at the wall braking it letting Dawn able to get out.
