Terry's vision was fuzzy. But for some reason the things choking him let go. He fell to the ground, gasping and coughing painfully. He could breathe. He put a hand to his throat which still felt tight. He shuttered as he gasped for air. His hands shook. But he had heard one sentence uttered by Gaea. Shade, kill Terry. He looked up to see his friend step forward and tower over him.

I sent Shade an apologetic look. He would have a better chance of surviving if you fought him, instead of the earth choking him.

Terry get up back on his feet. He's dizzy and takes a small step back to balance himself. Terry summons his staff which is twirling brightly now, facing Shade. What was he going to do? He needed some options.

Jade watched wide-eyed. They weren't going to fight each other, right? But she knows Gaea is watching. They have to. The relief at Terry being released was long gone now that Shade was ordered to kill him.

Shade's swords materialize in a wisp of black smoke. He slowly slide them from their sheathes. What was he doing? This was Terry he was fighting here. His conflicting emotions make hisneyes begin to flicker. Hazel to black. Black to hazel. On a stronger moment that kept them black, he sprang forward and slashed at Terry.

I watched them silently, and took a step back. My face showed no emotion.

Terry took another step back. Shade's eyes were flickering again. When they stopped at black, Terry knew what was going to happen. He blocked his powerful strike. Terry was too distracted and tired to fight. "Shade...!" It was no use.

Shade didn't answer Terry. His eyes flickered a bit, but remained black. He twirled his other sword and slashed down at Terry's stomach. When he missed, he appeared behind him and slashed at his back.

I winced. Gods, it was wring, having friends fight. But it was just a small sacrifice for Gaia to rise.

Terry dodged his slash just in time. Then Shade twirled, his swords flashing. He reappeared behind him. Wha-? Shadow travel? Shade had gained full control of his powers. Now he fought like the devil. Terry turned around to block his attack, but he was too late. A small cut opened from his back up his left shoulder. Great, now both shoulders hurt. Shade was open right then...but Terry couldn't bring himself to swing at him.

I put my hands in my head when Terry didn't attack. "Oh, Terry," I muttered silently. If he didn't go on offense, Shade was eventually going to kill him.

Shade took this moment of hesitation to kick his friend against a wall of the Wolf House that was still standing. He pushed him against it and held one sword at Terry's neck. His hands were shaking and he was panting. His eyes flickered back and forth. They flashed madly. He struggled with himself, putting his other hand to his eye.
He didn't want to. But there could be blood. Terry had come here to help him. He was an enemy to the one that had made him strong. He was...Terry was his friend. His eyes slowly faded to hazel, and he blinked. What was he doing here? Could he really kill Terry?

"No!" Gaia shrieked furiously when Shade's eyes turned hazel again. "Kill him!"

Terry watched Shade. He was flattened against the wall, panting. Shade's cold blade against his neck. Their eyes met. Terry's were pleading. At Gaea's shriek, his eyes began to Chang and flicker again. Terry closed his eyes. Waiting for the end, he guessed.

I bit my lip, watching the scene anxiously. Was Shade really going to do it? Was he really going to kill Terry?

Jade watched in horror. Why didn't Terry return an attack? Was it because he cared too much for him? Her heart throbbed as Shade kicked him against the wall and held a blade to his throat. She wanted to scream at him not to do it. Jade watched silently. What was with Shade's eyes? She hadn't seen them do that before.

My eyes traveled around the crowd, seeing reactions. A nine year old had run away, crying. Most people were watching in horror. Some looked bored. I caught Jade's eyes. I didn't think that an eleven year old could looked so depressed like that.

Krissie watched quietly, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "Kill him already," she snapped at Shade. "Are you loyal to Gaea or not?" She sounded annoyed, but was actually ecstatic. If Shade refused to kill his former best friend...or if anyone from the crowd helped...for some reason, Krissie noticed Jade looking horrified. Too bad, little girl. Because we do have permission to kill anyone who helps.

Shade was trying to control himself. His eyes were changing like lights at a carnival game. Terry's eyes were so sad...and forgiving. Shade took a step back, throwing his sword to the ground. Tears slid out of his hazel eyes. His voice is a whisper.
"I can't.."
