"It's my fault!" Shade turned around at Caroline. "You wanna know why she died? Because of me! I killed her! Do you understand? Don't I disgust you? I came back here after betraying you guys, hurting you guys, and I came back here with her dying in my arms!" His hazel eyes are burning with guilt.

Terry stayed down next to Jade's unmoving still form. But he looks up at Shade. "You know that's not true. Krissie's the one that killed her, Shade."

Shade shook his head. His voice was raised in anger. "But that sword was meant for me! And she jumped in front of me. If I had moved out of the way, she wouldn't have died!"
He looked at Summer. "Don't you understand? I'm a monster! Gaea did something to me. Whenever I fight or see something that confuses me. Something snaps. I can't even control myself!"

Shade looked back at Izumi's motionless body. He turns away. She had said the exact same thing Caroline had said. Because of the Fates... He looks at Caroline with disbelieving eyes.
"Just don't touch me. Who knows, I might kill you next. I seriously can't control it! I just snap and...and I hurt someone! I can't have it happen to you! I'm not even human anymore!"

"But, you've stopped. You're not on Gaia's team anymore. I don't think she can still control you..." A thought occurred to me. He had made the sacrifice. Did that mean he was stuck with her forever...? Oh gods. But I didn't say it out loud.

"I don't know..! All I know is what Gaea awakened inside of me is a monster! It's not human! It calls for blood and whenever I feel confused, I just snap! I dint know when. I'm afraid of myself for it! Can't you see that there's something wrong with me? I'm dangerous? Why don't you all just stay away from me so I don't accidentally kill you all?"
Shade croutches down, head between hands. He closes his eyes.

"Just stay away!" He screams out from his curled position. He's shivering, but the weather's too warm for that. It's fear. Of himself. The confusion brings chaos welling up inside of him. He tries to swallow it and push it down.

Terry stands up. He looks at Shade. This was a real problem. Looks like Gaea had really gotten to him. Maybe Ethan and him should give them some alone time. "I'll go inform the Director about Izumi." He told Caroline.

Something about her name snaps in his mind. A torrent of images scatter into his brain, attacking like sharp shards of shattered glass.
"Ugh..!"
It was all your fault she died. If you had stayed loyal to me she would still be alive. Why don't you come back?
Images of Izumi attack his head. Laughing, smiling, crying. Running, fighting, teasing.

"Stop it!" Shade yells it. The images recede. His anger is boiling at remembering Izumi. Her death was still a fresh scar on his mind. Suddenly, he can feel the monster inside him take this moment of weakness to attack. His eyes flash black once before resting again to hazel as he manages to detain it.

I took a careful step back when his eyes changed color. He was fighting for control again. I knew that look. I didn't know what he was shouting to. Probably something in his mind. My hand rested on the handle of my sword.

Shade was wrong. It wasn't his fault. It wasn't Krissie's fault. It was Gaea's fault. Izumi would still be alive. He wouldn't have betrayed his friends. And most of all, this thing wouldn't be inside him. His hazel eyes had full control now. What the heck was the demon inside him? He shivered, grabbing his arms in a bent position on the ground. He was scared. So scared of what he had become.
