Shade shifted the weight of his backpack which held his few belongings. He was going to head back to the Roman camp. It was probably empty because everyone was staying here at the Greek camp to work together for the next battle, but Shade didn't mind going back alone. It was better going back alone. There was no sign of the battle. There would be no people to remind him of it. And there would be no clearing where Izumi died. Her death was still a fresh scar on his mind. He stepped out of the cabin for the Roman guests quietly into the night. He was afraid someone would wake up. So he quickly opened the door to the clearing of the camp.

I opened an eye at a small creaking sound. I was on guard duty for the night. I saw a figure go to the clearing. Shade...
I followed him. "Hey, where are you going?"

Shade turned around, startled. He saw Caroline and tensed a little.
"A walk. I can't sleep."
He lied lamely. Why did he lie? He didn't know himself. There was no reason to lie.

"Then mind if I go with you?" There was something about how he spoke...why would he be lying? What was he doing?

"Stop lying, stupid." A voice sounded from the trees. Terry was sitting there. He was on guard duty with Caroline. "Anyone can tell you're lying. Where are you really going?"

Terry stood up, walking over to Shade. He pulled him forward by the shoulder. "What's this for?" He looked at the backpack on his shoulders.

I crossed my arms across my chest, eyes narrowed. Then I understood. "You're going back to the Roman camp, aren't you?"

Shade backed up away from them. When Terry grabbed his shoulder, he knocked his hand away.
"Just leave me alone! I can go where I want to! I can take care of myself!"

Shade trailed off. His hazel eyes conflicted. He didn't need looking after. He wasn't a kid.

"I'm going back to camp. I don't care if you follow me or not."
He said shortly. He turned around and walked away.

"Wait..." Terry grabbed Shade's shoulder and spun him around. "One more thing..." He suddenly punched Shade in the stomach. Hard and solid. He let go of his friend as he fell to the ground. "Wake up! Stop acting like we're strangers, you idiot! We're your friend's and we want to help you!"
