"You're not a third wheel," I protested. Well, he kind of was, but still. "Fine, I guess we'll see you later. Have fun...organizing maps...and stuff."

"I will, don't worry." Terry's voice replied as he slipped out of the archery range.

Shade watched him leave silently, his face still burning at his comments about how "cute" they were. Shade turned away from Caroline to make sure she didn't see his blush.

I fixed my gaze back on Shade. He was looking away. I smiled. Same sweet, shy Shade. (Hey, alliteration! lol) "So what do you want to do now?"

"Not archery." Shade said immediately. "I can't hit anywhere close to the target. And the saying "Practice makes perfect is so not true when it come to this."

I laughed. "Don't worry. I stink at it too. Terry would know."

Shade raised an eyebrow. "Terry? Oh, you were practicing earlier with him. He always laughed at me when I tried. He's a bad teacher." He muttered.

I smiled. "Really? He was supportive to me, even though I failed too." I paused, then added suspiciously, "But I saw him smiling when that dryad came out of the tree and started cursing at me..."

"He was laughing on the inside, trust me." Shade told her. Then with a puzzled look, he added. "Dryad?"

I smiled and nodded. "On my first two tries, I stunk so much, I hit that tree and missed the target completely. Then the dryad came out and started cursing."

Shade had a small amused smile at her words. "Well, I'd probably do worse. I don't even want to pick up a bow because I'm afraid of what I might do. And it'd be kind of hard not to laugh or smile at that."

"Hey!" I protested, smiling, "Not you too!" And I swear, at that moment, I could hear that tree laughing. I glared at it.

Shade smiled at her protest, a small and gentle one. He looked at the tree, amused. "Well, it is pretty funny, even if I'm no better."

I laughed. "I guess so. But not to me." I insisted stubbornly. "It's mean to laugh at someone's failure."

"Not a failure." Shade corrected her. He smiled. "Nothing you do is a failure. It gave Terry a laugh, that's good."
