Thunk! An arrow imbedded itself into the target. The center. A bit off to the right. Terry was always pretty good with all weapons. Archery he wasn't so bad at either. Aother arrow flew. It hit the ring outside of the center. He shrugged to himself.
He was thinking about what Gaea had offered him. His brother. His old girlfriend. He missed them both so terribly. Every time he fought against Gaea or refused her, he was bringing them closer to death. The mere thought made his fingers tremble. What did they think of him? Probably how heartless and horrible he was. After all, if he joined Gaea, he had nothing to lose. Shade didn't even seem like his friend anymore. He looked like a stubborn fool, being selfish.
The next arrow missed the target completely and Terry threw the bow to the side. His eyes were narrowed behind his glasses. He was thinking too much....

I sidestepped as the bow landed next to me. I glanced in the direction where it had come from. "Terry?" I walked over to him, getting a practice bow off the rack as I went by. "Are you okay?" I aimed at the target, and let go. It missed the target completely and hit a nearby tree. A dryad came out and cursed at me. "...Yeah, I don't even know why I came here."

Terry was silent as Caroline walked up. He almost felt like smiling as the dryad came out of her tree. Almost felt like it. He looked down, sighing. "Define 'okay'." His gray eyes were murky and dull.

"No." Terry's answer was short and simple. He had changed a lot. He no longer tried to conceal the fact he wasn't happy. He no longer cracked jokes or smiled as often. It was because he could find no reason to. Only a reason to feel depressed, worried.

Terry was silent he couldn't meet her eyes. He was afraid of what kind of look she was giving him. He just couldn't stand it anymore. Everyone had accusing eyes when they turned on him. Everything he did wrong. He paused after a long time, staring at the ground. Then he closed his eyes, finding his voice. "I had been thinking about it for a long time, Caroline. Is it really that wrong to be thinking that? Look at us. Our numbers are dropping. We're not going to make it. You know that."

My glare faltered a little. I spoke gently, "I'm sorry, Terry. I mean, it's your choice. But I really don't care if I die. To me, I'd be happy dying in battle with Gaia." My eyes softened. "Defending our camps."

Terry laughed, but it wasn't because he was happy. It was a laugh full of scorn. Short and scathing. "You're so innocent, I'm jealous. I can't think like you at all. I'm pretty dispicable, aren't I? I'm going to stay. I guess..."

What the? What was wrong with him? Terry had changed after Jade's death. Not in a good way. "It's your choice whether you stay or not. If it makes you happier to join-if that's what your heart tells you- then join."

Terry turned with a puzzled look. "Don't I feel very different to you? I don't like it either. But for some reason, whenever I try to smile, or whenever I usually smile at something, I just can't. It's like...there's nothing." He looks puzzled for a moment. Emotionless. He feels emotionless.

Terry looked up, forcing a smile. He was worrying her. That was the last thing he wanted to do. Dump his worries unnecessarily on others. "Sorry, just one of my moments there. I'm fine now." He would shoulder this odd feeling for now. What ever it was.
